“Deconstruction” Character Preview — Eric Murray
Eric Murray lives in Wynton, a small Colorado town, with his roommates, Jack Benn and Ross Parker. The three young men were roommates and best friends in college, and moved to Wynton together after graduation to pursue computer programming jobs with two of the town’s main employers. During college, the roommates were close friends with Beth Harper, who attended the same school. The four friends studied together, frequently ate meals together, and even took the occasional road trip together. Beth was a frequent face at their apartment in college.
Like his roommates, Eric is a bit of a nerd, but Beth has never noticed or cared. Eric, Jack, and Ross were a bit in awe of Beth during school, without her realizing it. Their friendship has been purely platonic, as they view Beth to be far out of their league, and it’s never dawned on Beth that her good friends might view her as more than friends.
Eric is a thin and wiry man in his early twenties, with a gap-toothed grin that is almost perpetually on his face when around friends. When around strangers, he moves with a shy awkwardness that shows his lack of confidence. His family life doesn’t help give him a sense of place, as both his parents are deceased. His dad remarried after Eric reached adulthood, but Eric was never close with his stepmom and stepsister, who are his only remaining family.
Among the three roommates, Eric is the most talented programmer, and has been hired for jobs requiring him to sign non-disclosure agreements. Outside of work, Eric is a huge baseball fan.
