“Deconstruction” Character Preview — Mark Devlin
This is the last character preview for the upcoming story. The story will launch in the next update.
Mark Devlin is the CEO of WarTech, a military contractor riding a hot streak in the industry, at least by outward appearances. Under his guidance, WarTech rose from obscurity to become one of the darlings of the industry.
Devlin carries himself with confidence — even a cocky confidence at times. He frequently brags about himself, and belittles those around him, badgering them to get his way. When backed into a corner or challenged, Devlin isn’t a peacemaker, but a fighter, lashing out at those around him.
There are two sides to Devlin, though. Underneath his cocky exterior lies great insecurity. He was bullied as a child, which he channeled into a drive to “show the world.” He possesses an almost maniacal fear of failure, and can’t bear the thought of being doubted or criticized by others. His fear of being the runt again leads him to shirk any blame for failures. It also motivates him to pursue WarTech’s success — or survival — at almost any cost. He also frets over others’ opinions of his stewardship of the company.
Physically, Devlin fits the stereotype of a bland, conformist ex-military leader, with his close-cropped haircut, khaki pants, blue Oxford, and brown loafers.
